Big infrastructure projects in those areas are continuing to sustain demand for manufacturing goods.
As well as the signs of optimism, the survey revealed that companies are still investing. Though the balance of those saying they were going to expand investment against those who weren”t did drop slightly on the previous quarter, the balance stood at a healthy 14pc, and all sectors recorded positive balances indicating widespread investment plans.
‘Companies aren”t just saying they are feeling optimistic; they are still investing too,’ Mr Radley said. ‘We haven”t seen any negative impacts on confidence or in the area of raising finance. There”s been no credit crunch effect on investment plans.’
